Maxxy Jay

Electric, soulful, funky- these are but three words to describe this hidden gem of the UK's Soul/Funk DJ circuit. Maxxy Jay began his musical journey as a toddler, immersed in the music played at the various house parties thrown by his parents in the leafy suburbs of Kent. He fondly remembers being asked to guess a song after 10 seconds of listening, which led him to discovering that he is able to name the song and artist with a stunning accuracy rate. During secondary school, Maxxy Jay was taken under the wing of his music teacher, beginning his journey into blues and jazz music. Shortly after this discovery he learned of George Clinton, which is what led him to become a disciple of Funkadelic. He fell head over heels in funk discovering the likes of Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrel, Prince and of course, James Brown. By the age of 14, his passion for music fuelled a love for replicating drum grooves. He also joined a gospel band in South London where his ability would land him a meeting with the Lord of gospel himself, Kirk Franklin. Nowadays you can catch him spinning classic funk and soul tracks live on Street Sounds Radio, every Saturday from 2-4pm!

Our message is in the music, we are one family under a groove! Street Sounds has had vinyl running through its veins since 1982.
