Nick Ratcliffe

Nick has been a DJ since since 1969, and at only 11 years old he started out by playing at school discos. He ran a successful mobile disco during the 70’s and early 80’s, and moved into night clubs in 1977 where he worked at dozens of different independently-owned venues, as well as The Mecca & First Leisure groups at their “super clubs”.       Nick started in commercial radio in 1985, taking over Steve Walsh’s Saturday night dance show on County Sound in Guildford. He worked continuously as a presenter on County Sound, Mercury FM, Star FM, Eagle Radio and others until the early 2000’s, when he moved to BBC Radio 2 to do some music programming work until 2004.       During this period he was also the Programme Controller of Star FM in Slough and the Head Of Music for the UKRD Group, which has 15 stations across the UK. He has also done programming consultancy work for Atlantic 252, Ritz 1035, Music Choice Group, First Love Radio in Lewisham and Sveriges Radio in Stockholm, as well as being a visiting tutor at Lambeth College, lecturing on the HNC Radio Production course.       More recently Nick has presented weekly shows on Solar Radio and has set up a broadcast consultancy company with his good mate Renna McDonagh- our Drivetime host at Street Sounds Radio. They also jointly ran a successful experimental radio station in Surrey which garnered much critical acclaim.       Nick’s love of soul music in all its forms stems from the very first 7” records that he bought in the 60’s and 70’s. This was developed further by working part-time in record shops in Bracknell & Slough, where he got to hear the very latest imports and UK tracks.     Now Nick has joined Street Sounds Radio to simply play the music he loves, all in his trademark chaotic style and with his tongue pressed firmly into his cheek...

Our message is in the music, we are one family under a groove! Street Sounds has had vinyl running through its veins since 1982.
