Paul Gee started DJing during his school years back in the 70s, where he made a regular appearance on the school radio station with some school friends. Amongst them was a boy named Steve Wright, who went on to become a well known Radio 2 presenter.
He learned most of his skills while working as a barman at the Zero 6 in the late ’70s, where he would help the resident DJ. Many years later, he eventually ended up as the Licensee and Manager of the nightclub, during this time he also DJ’ed at the original Roller City in Aviation Way.
Throughout his career he has worked in wedding venues, and hosted at many clubs. He also has hosted several In The Park Concerts at Garon Park, Southend. During this time Paul worked alongside many big names including Chas & Dave, Mike Ried, Jim Davidson and Tony Blackburn. At the height of Karaoke popularity, he became a prominent figure in selling, setting up and promoting the system which further grew his love for working in the music industry.
Nowadays you can find Paul as a resident DJ at the Park Inn Palace Hotel, Radisson, in Southend, where he also manages the conference AV equipment, organises weddings and controls the music in the bar. When he’s not at the Park Inn, you can also find him at Rolla City, a rollerskating rink in Rochford. He has also worked with many charities including the Rotary Club Kidz Out at Central Park Dagenham and runs a successful disability nightclub called Freedom in Southend at CoCo’s, with his wife.
Paul Gee tells us that it’s a pleasure to be joining the Street Sounds team! If you would like to catch his show then tune in every Wednesday for The 10 Til 1 Show from 10am-1pm.
