Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember, growing up our house was always full of the sound of the 60s & 70s and My Mums beloved Country & Western! All my cousins were Teddy Boys heavily into Rock n Roll. At the age of 13 I had a part time job and saved hard until I finally had enough to buy my first set of turntables in what I called a coffin case from Cosmic Electronics Brentwood, I also purchased a pair of very large Bose speakers. I had this set up in my bedroom much to my Mums & neighbours’ despair and I spent hours teaching myself how to beat match vinyl.

Fast forward a year and I got the opportunity to DJ the school youth club, which I did many times, then came friends Birthdays, engagements, Weddings etc & it just took off from there. I was into Ska & Reggae, Hip Hop, but was also discovering Jazz Funk & Soul.

I got married at 29 and hung up my headphones for some time. A few years had passed and I was now doing event photography under the name of Funky Fotos and was covering big events for some of the top soul stations and also the famous 5* soul at the Goldmine Orsett Hall where we had crowds of up to 1200 people. I then got asked to DJ the jazz funk lounge downstairs at this event, well that fuelled the fire and I rushed out and brought a whole new DJ set up.

I then started DJing parties & weddings for a while but didn't like having to play the chart music, so I got a residency in a local bar doing a soul night every Friday. After a while I decided to start putting on my own Soul nights called "Steppin’ Out" I hold these all over Essex and as far away as Oxford to the present day. I still do the occasional party as long as they want the kind of music I play.

I had never done radio until about 2017 when I had the chance to join a brand-new soul station & The Funky Bunker was born along with Wayne Dees mix show.

Now I have this great opportunity to be playing on this iconic name that gave me so many great memories as a youngster...... where's my lino lol.

Hopefully you will enjoy my show and drop me a message to say hello.

Keep it Funky
