Produced by Birmingham Hippodrome in partnership with Break Mission, Afroflux, Queer-Side and GraffitiArtist.com. B-SIDE kicks off on Thursday 6 June with a Young Community Takeover event, which focuses around unlocking young people’s creativity and engagement through Hip-Hop workshops, as well as a showing of Gerel Falconer’s fantastic Hip-Hop theatre show, TONES.
Over the festival weekend on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June the festival explodes onto the streets of Southside, inside Birmingham Hippodrome and Bullring & Grand Central. The weekend will feature some of the very best contemporary Hip-Hop talents from across the UK and internationally.
Break Mission Worldwide Dance Championships will culminate on Sunday with the Finals in the Bullring, the city’s flagship retail destination after a series of Hip-Hop events featuring dance competition qualifiers, music block party takeover with Street Sounds, Graffiti Jam and Afroflux marketplace and micro-convention, a film screening, talks and more, earlier in the weekend.
The 2024 festival features dedicated workshops with schools in areas of low arts engagement, as well as Queer-Side’s Waacking competition which opens dialogue for inclusivity within Hip-Hop.
