Street Sounds has always been about one thing above all else…the music!
When we listened to what was being played on radio, we realised something was missing. There was a huge audience of passionate music lovers who grew up with an extraordinary soundtrack but no radio station that truly represented it.
So we created Street Sounds Radio.
A station for people who remember when the music mattered. When you bought the record, read the sleeve notes, knew who produced it, who played on it and which mix you wanted to hear.
A radio station whose purpose is simple: to entertain, to celebrate great music and to become the soundtrack to your life.
THE STREET SOUNDS DNA
The 1970s, ’80s and ’90s were extraordinary decades for music of Black origin — a period of incredible creativity, innovation and musical evolution.
Soul - Dance Anthems - Funk - Jazz-Funk - Electro - Hip-Hop - Boogie - Disco - Rare Groove - R&B - Soulful House.
These weren't simply different genres. They influenced one another, created new movements and provided the soundtrack to clubs, dancefloors, parties and generations of music lovers around the world.
This is the musical DNA of Street Sounds Radio.
Switch us on and it should feel a little like stepping into the DeLorean, hitting 88mph and travelling back to a time when the music was organic, exciting and groundbreaking.
But Street Sounds Radio isn't simply about nostalgia.
Great music didn't suddenly stop being made, which is why you'll also hear carefully selected tracks from the 2000s, 2010s and today, alongside new releases, re-edits and discoveries that deserve to sit alongside the classics.
