Dave Pinney

Dave Pinney’s journey behind the decks began in 1981, inspired by some of the DJs, radio shows and publications that helped define an unforgettable era for Soul, Funk and Disco.

His early influences included Greg Edwards and the legendary Best Disco in Town nights at the Lyceum, Capital Radio, Steve Walsh and Radio London Soul Night Out, together with James Hamilton’s influential Dance Chart and record reviews in Record Mirror. Blues & Soul magazine was another essential source of musical discovery, followed later by The Disco Mix Club (DMC).

Dave got his break during the 1980s, when he had the pleasure of playing Funk, Soul and Disco at the Prince of Wales in South Ockendon and from there, as they say, the rest is history.

His passion for music eventually took him from behind the decks to behind the microphone.

Dave’s broadcasting journey began on London pirate station Star FM, before he spent many years presenting on Orsett Hospital Radio. That experience ultimately helped lead to the creation of Thurrock Community Radio in the 1990s, adding another important chapter to his broadcasting career.

More than four decades after first stepping behind the decks, Dave’s enthusiasm for great music remains as strong as ever. His extensive DJ and radio experience is backed by a genuine passion for the Funk, Soul and Disco sounds that started it all.

On Street Sounds Radio, you can catch Dave presenting two shows each week:
