Jason Bradbury

Most people will recognise Jason Bradbury from his time on television presenting Channel 5’s The Gadget Show, but behind the familiar face of the self-confessed “King of the Geeks” lies a lifelong passion for electronic music and DJ culture.

Jason’s musical journey began in the early 1980s. As a first-generation breakdancer, he went searching for the mesmerizing beats that provided the soundtrack to the emerging culture — and found them on the now-iconic Street Sounds Electro albums.

When he wasn’t breakdancing, riding BMXs or trying his hand at graffiti, Jason could be found attempting to master another essential element of the culture: the turntables.

It was the beginning of a passion for DJing that has remained with him for more than 35 years.

Today, that creativity continues in Jason’s home studio in Cornwall, where he dabbles in his own music production and also hosts a regular podcast celebrating the culture of the 1980s and ’90s.

And, of course, his love of music and technology come together perfectly here on Street Sounds Radio.

Every Friday, Jason presents The Street Sounds Time Machine, a three-hour journey through the music, memories and culture of an unforgettable era.

Alongside selections from his personal record box spanning Rap, Funk, House and Electro, Jason brings his passion for technology into the show with a fun retro tech feature, looking back at the groundbreaking gadgets that helped define the period.

But this isn’t simply a nostalgia trip.

Jason is always keen to throw a few unexpected selections into the mix, demonstrating how the sounds that inspired him all those years ago remain both modern and timeless today.

From breakdancing and Street Sounds Electro to turntables, technology and broadcasting, Jason’s passions have travelled with him throughout his life — and The Street Sounds Time Machine brings them all together.
