Marc Carey
Marc Carey's journey behind the decks began in the mid-1980s, DJing at house parties and driven by a deep-rooted love of Jazz-Funk, Electro and Hip-Hop.
From spinning records at local parties, he quickly progressed to the pubs and clubs of Southeast London, building a reputation for his eclectic taste, energy and musical knowledge.
His growing profile eventually took him into some of London’s legendary venues, including the iconic Wag Club and Spatz, immersing Marc in the vibrant underground culture that would help shape the next chapter of his musical journey.
As the Acid House movement exploded, Marc followed the rapidly evolving scene, inspired by pioneers such as Andrew Weatherall and making regular pilgrimages north to hear influential DJs including Mike Pickering and Graeme Park.
Alongside DJing, Marc’s role at Warner Music opened the door to another side of the industry. It brought him into contact with major cultural figures including Tony Wilson, Alan McGee and Chris Blackwell, as well as groundbreaking artists such as 808 State, Coldcut and Betty Boo.
Those experiences sparked a fascination with what happened beyond the DJ booth, the creative, production and business sides of music. Marc moved into music production and later radio, establishing himself as both a presenter and radio producer.
In 2016, Marc launched Roulette Records, an independent label created to champion forward-thinking music and emerging talent.
His passion for innovation later led to the creation of Evolution Music, recognised for pioneering bio-based alternatives in physical music production and bringing together two of Marc’s passions, music culture and sustainability.
Marc is also involved in the development of a new vinyl pressing plant and studio complex in Brighton, working alongside a number of respected DJs and producers to help support the next generation of physical music and creative production.
Above everything else, though, Marc is a lifelong music lover.
Music runs through his veins and continues to influence everything he does. Over the years, his work has earned the support and respect of artists, DJs and industry figures including Chad Jackson, Debby Lee, Greg Wilson, Timo Garcia, Norman Cook, Ninja Tune, Jon DaSilva and Mike Pickering, among many others.
From house parties and underground clubs to record labels, radio, production and the future of vinyl, Marc’s journey has always been driven by the same thing a genuine passion for great music and the culture surrounding it.
