Morgan Khan’s extraordinary career in the music industry began in 1978, when he joined Pye Records, marking the start of a journey that would ultimately help shape British dance music culture.

In 1981, Morgan launched his first record labels: R&B, created to showcase UK talent, and Excaliber, focusing on international signings. His first UK signing was the phenomenally successful group Imagination, and remarkably, both labels achieved major hits with their respective first releases.

Then, in 1982, Morgan founded Street Sounds, the record label that would become synonymous with bringing the latest and most exciting developments in Black and dance music to a generation of UK music lovers.

Over a career spanning almost four decades, Morgan has worked across virtually every area of the recording industry. His experience encompasses record company ownership, artist discovery and development, production, promotions, marketing, sales and distribution, publishing, artist management, business affairs, and concert and event promotion.

At the heart of Morgan’s career has always been an instinct for recognising new sounds and understanding their cultural importance.

Through Street Sounds and his wider work within the industry, he played a pioneering role in introducing and establishing emerging genres across Europe, particularly Electro and Hip-Hop, and later House, Hip-House and Acid House.

His ability to discover artists, identify musical movements and bring underground sounds to a wider audience has left an enduring mark on dance music culture.

More than four decades after the creation of Street Sounds, the name continues to represent the same spirit of musical discovery, innovation and authenticity that defined those groundbreaking releases.

From record labels and artists to clubs, concerts, radio and entire musical movements, Morgan Khan’s contribution to the music industry has been both extensive and influential, and the Street Sounds legacy continues.
