Peter Browes

Music has always been a huge part of Peter Browes’ life.
His musical journey began with the simple childhood ritual of placing an old cassette recorder in front of the television, pressing play and record, and capturing the latest sounds from Top of the Pops. From there came his early Rude Boy and Ska days, even taking on the role of Suggs, miming along to Madness in a middle-school talent contest!
Then came the breakdancing era, and with it a musical discovery that would leave a lasting impression.
It was during this time that Peter first developed his love for Street Sounds and the incredible music and culture surrounding it. Those records became an important part of his musical education and helped shape a passion that would eventually lead him towards DJing.
In the late 1980s, Peter joined forces with a few friends to put together a small sound system, playing local gigs around the Harrow area. Armed with vinyl and a pair of SL-1200s, their sets featured the emerging sounds of old-school rave and house.
Eventually, life moved in a different direction. Peter sold his SL-1200s and stepped away from DJing to concentrate on raising a family and managing to miss the entire CD era along the way!
Then came Covid lockdown, and something changed.
With time to rediscover his passion for music, Peter found his love of DJing all over again. This time, however, the turntables had been joined by an entirely new world of digital DJing and online radio.
What started with a cassette recorder in front of the television had come full circle.
From Ska and Street Sounds to breakdancing, vinyl, rave, house and digital radio, Peter’s musical journey has covered plenty of ground, but the passion behind it has never disappeared.
Four years on from rediscovering that love of DJing, Peter is here, and ready for the next chapter with Street Sounds Radio.
