Simon Bennett

Simon’s broadcasting career began at some of London’s best-known radio stations, but his love of music and DJing started behind the decks.
His first regular DJ residency was at Roller City in Welwyn Garden City, where he hosted weekday and evening sessions, spinning a mix of disco, house, funk and soul. It was during this time that Simon met Graham Gold, which led to him producing Graham’s specialist shows on London’s legendary KISS 100, initially answering phones, making coffee and filling in PRS sheets before becoming firmly established behind the scenes. He also worked alongside Judge Jules during his time at KISS.
In 1998, Simon moved into the record industry, joining the record label and management company good as a junior A&R assistant. Working as part of its international team, he helped secure, manage and market artists around the world, contributing to the early international development of names including Armin van Buuren, Tiësto and Ferry Corsten.
Simon later joined LBC, producing and co-hosting the weekday overnight phone-in programme Through the Night with journalist Peter Deeley. He also took to the skies as an airborne reporter, delivering live traffic and news reports for LBC 97.3, LBC News 1152 and Heart 106.2.
His broadcasting work extended internationally when he became UK correspondent for QANTAS, contributing to Channel 9’s Up & Away programme across the airline’s international network.
After moving to Australia, Simon joined ABC 702 Sydney, producing its weekday afternoon talk and call-in programme. He was subsequently selected as a contracted continuity announcer for BBC Television in Australia and New Zealand, providing voiceovers for BBC Worldwide, UKTV and CBeebies.
For five years, Simon hosted A World of Music, a live weekly programme broadcast from Sydney on Brunei’s Pelangi FM, showcasing some of the best new music from around the world. He also presented The Hit Zone for Royal Brunei Airlines’ inflight entertainment service for several years.
Today, Simon brings that lifetime of radio, music and broadcasting experience to Street Sounds Radio. Drawing on everything from disco, funk and soul to the records that defined clubs and dancefloors across the decades, his daytime show is all about great music, great memories and keeping the energy alive.
Turn it up — this is the soundtrack to your life.
